WHAT YOU need to know
Every pet I work with is perfect just as they are! But sometimes even the best of the best need a little help to make their photos shine. That’s where my creative eye and editing skills come in.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do you photograph?
The majority of my clients are cats and dogs, but I also photograph other animals such as rabbits, hamsters and horses. I am also happy to photograph more exotic creatures such as birds or farm animals.
My pet is not photogenic.
NOT true! Everyone (animal or human) can look beautiful in a photograph. It all has to do with lighting and angles and knowing what to look for to get those amazing shots. And while some pets maybe aren’t show-dog material, you love them just the same, and our photo shoot will capture all the wonderful things that make them unique and beautiful to you.
My dog is not well behaved; Does it matter?
I’ve worked with all kinds of dogs of all levels of obedience, or in some cases dis-obedience! I always manage to get a range of awesome shots using tried and tested techniques and a lot of patience. Please don’t let your dog’s behaviour hold you back from booking a session!
What if my dog can't go off leash?
No problem! Believe it or not, most of the dogs I photograph are on a lead. Luckily we live in the digital age where, in most cases, the lead can be quickly removed in Photoshop during the post production stage, leaving you with a leash-free look.
I have more than two pets. Can I have them all photographed?
A standard session can accommodate up to two pets, so please add R250 per pet to the session fee to allow for the extra shooting and editing time. You’ll view approximately 20 extra images per extra pet. If you have five or more pets you’d like to have photographed, please contact me and I’ll provide a customised quote.
Can I be in the photos?
Definitely! I love capturing the special bond between pet and owner.
Can you take photos of our kids/family during the session?
Since I am predominantly a pet photographer, the focus of my work will always be on your pets. If you are looking for someone to take child or family portraits where the focus is on the people, let me know and I can recommend an excellent portrait photographer in your area.
Where are you based and do you travel?
I’m based in Johannesburg, South Africa and yes I love to travel! If you want me to travel to you, or meet you at a destination, it will require a travel fee.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
I’ll keep in touch with you leading up to the session. The quality and style of my images relies on great natural sunlight. If the weather isn’t agreeable (not enough sunlight due to rain, heavy cloud, threat of storms or general unstable weather) we will probably need to reschedule the session to another day. In some cases, and at certain times of year (particularly summer), we may need to reschedule multiple times, so please be patient with this process. The better the weather is on the day, with lots of natural sunshine, calm conditions and limited cloud cover, the better your images will turn out.
Where does the session take place?
We’ll meet up at a chosen outdoor location, unless we need to shoot at your home (possibly due to your pet’s age, health or species). If that’s the case, I’ll come to you. Beautiful locations enrich the images, from picturesque parks to trendy urban areas. If you have a location that is special to you and your pet we’ll try to incorporate that. But if you need help deciding, I’ll work with you to determine the best location to suit your pet’s temperament and the look of the image you are hoping to create.
When will we get our photos?
Your will receive an online gallery link with the edited images 14 days after the photoshoot.
Do I get the raw image files?
The short answer is no. In an average session, I take hundreds of images. Not every image is going to come out perfectly; I’ll comb through an assortment of silly expressions, closed eyes, and snouts pressed up against the camera lens to find the absolute best possible shots of you and your pets! Part of my job is to capture the whole “story” and then present it to you in a thoughtful and artistic way, so please trust me to find the diamonds in the rough and make them shine – I promise you’ll have plenty of images to choose from!
Can I order extra products, over and above what's included in my pre-paid package?
Yes! Regardless of which package you select, you’re welcome to add any number of extra products to your order.
